PTCL since after its privatisation has gained a lot of momentum and has launched quite exciting services. PTCL launched its DSL operations sometime back and has recently reduced their rates quite dramatically. It has created a buzz and people are seriously thinking about switching to PTCL. I haven’t used or experienced their internet connectivity personally so I can not comment about the quality of service in great detail. Perhaps someone among the dear visitors can provide us some valuable feedback and insight.
Anyway, coming back to the recently announced rates by PTCL for their Broadband connection, the charge schedule go this way:
512 kbps for Rs. 1199 a month
1 mbps for Rs. 1999 a month
2 mbps for Rs. 4999 a month
This seems like an amazing drop and on the surface looks to be quite competitive. Coupled with free installation, free modem and unlimited bandwidth — and ofcourse the added benefit and facility of having the DSL charges billed with the PTCL phone bill — is making PTCL stand out from the crowd at the moment.
However, I believe one department that seriously needs attention is PTCL’s customer care. There have been numerous occassions and news regarding the poor performance and troubleshooting when an instance arises. Nevertheless, Pakistan ISP industry is up for some interesting turns.

IPTV
Next in line from the PTCL is the IPTV. PTCL is to launch an IPTV service. According to the website the features include:

Well!!! They have shifted their 256kbps existing customers to 512kbps which is great value and another they removed the stupid bandwidth limit (for which i was praying for lol) for its customers for those like was unhappy with their customer service center and was going to disconnect the service for good and was about to switch on to WATEEN OR LINK.NET but when heard this new news i was impressed and thaked GOD that i had not made it GO… well for short term People will bear it (BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE/ CALL CENTER) but in the long run PTCL might loose customers on double speed…….
and about their new stupid DSL portal which has pirate low quality movies to stream and very very very low collection,,,, i had seen FTP servers dedicated to sharing,, on my previous Cable Net operator which has 100’s of Tera-Bytes of space for English and Hindi Movies Collection…..
And above that if you want to watch stream it u a*****e u can’t download it stream it with the connection speed u have ..
this is really bad… i hate this stream feature y can’t we download it LAN SPEED…. if we get internet speed on our portal than what is the use of it… ???
Somebody agrees to it or not but to my mind PTCL has now effectively the internet service in Pakistan. I am using their service for many months now and have no hesitation to call it an outstanding internet connection which boosted not only my business but also my confidence. I AM CURRENTLY USING PTCL BROADBAND SERVICES AND I AM SATISFIED WITH PTCL BROADBAND SERVICES. PTCL HAS GIVEN ME A GREAT SPEED INTERNET. AND I HOPE THAT IN FUTURE IT WILL BE BEST BROADBAND AND WILL GIVE US CHEEP SERVICES THAN OTHER BROADBAND NETWORKS.

Thanks for dropping by Furqan and letting us know about the quality of service. I think the general opinion is that people are satisfied with the internet speed et al that PTCL provides.
My new broadband DSL connection from PTCL was configured on March 04, 2008. However I am continuously facing some problems regarding speed and downloading.
I am complaining since March 05, 2008 to their customer support number 1236.
1. Customer relation officers note the complaint and said, “we will pass your complaint to our technical team and they will contact you” but no one has contacted us till to date
2. Call transferred to technical department and they always suggest changing proffered and alternate DNS server addresses, and when they know that, by changing DNS server addresses the problem is still there they said, “Our team will visit your premises and solve the problem” but no one has visited till to date and the problem is still there.
My connection is 2MB (2048 kbps) but the speed which I am receiving is between 300 – 500 kbps. Also I am unable to download any thing from the internet even though most of the time I am unable to receive my emails with attachments.
I am also unable to complain on 18, by pressing automatic method it says that the number is incorrect and by pressing operator there was a long hold and after 20 or 30 minutes line dropped.
I think they will never resolve my issues.

ptcl is a good service and i am using their service, since 2007 january till today may 31st but i wonder why this page isn’t working for me ( blackplanet.com ) it isn’t a bad website or sex related site so i would appreciate if they fix this problem coz i used that web mostly and its my hoppy to use it 2 ..
PTCL DSL – At last it’s better then others
I m intersting in PTCL dsl and I m tired of wateen connection wich is too much poor signals……..
but one problem is that for ptcl dsl connection , it required phone connection……….. and I have no phone line……..
is therefore i m unable to decide to join ptcl dsl.
My experiance about PTCL dsl is very good. I m using 512k connection and the connecting speed is 510k. It is very good in downloading.

they are having hard time, by pinging i can see a lot of request timedout received..
Although i am using PTCL 1 MB … Connection, as faar as the IP TV goes, let keep the fingers Crossed..

I have been using PTCL DSL since April 2007, Initially 1 MB and now 2MB connection.
I am more than satisfied with the connection, download speed I usually get is around 200KB/s.
Only issue with PTCL is their customer services, calling 1236 is useless, all they say is we have got your complain this is your complain number and your issue will resolve in 24 hours.
After 24 hours if you call again and give them complain number , they cant find your complain and this goes on.
Got IPTV installed few days back which PTCL guy said is for 2 months testing so I dont have to pay anything for 2 months. Currently they are offering 101 channels, Time Shit feature on 10 channels and few Old English, Pakistani and indian movies in VOD ( Video on demand) section.
Picture and sound quality is great and I am looking forward to retain the service after 2 months testing period.

Im just getting 135kb/s (download) on 512kb/s 🙁
all is o.k but about if telephone goes wth no tone. no body is there to help. no one is listening you but only awarding a complaint number. your telephone if off for a months but you are getting billed for DSL and smart tv.
when you peoplke or providing such facilities must remeber it need the back up. your fixed charges is a lot of problem, as we are paying although our telephone is out of order.
what ever best service your providing your zero if telephone is off and your jon is just awarding complaint numer and no cure.
so please dont offer any thing till you get good back up
OMG OMG ptcl sux to be frank the customer care sux i had my dsl damaged for 2 months 1 time :/and the connection keeps disconnecting ptcl doesnt have a strong connection mayb coz of TOOO MANY USERS!the connection lags me like shit on et servers :/

i have worked on many Broadband connection available in karachi and isl , if you are not faar from the exchange then ADSL broadband of PTCL which u can choose the best for you its a good DEDICATED connection (NOT SHARED) .. i am using for the last 6 months and had no problems with it…

I am quite satisfied with ptcl services , i have 512kbps connection and usually i get 64Kbps on downloader , along with that its good to utilize the service except that DNS problem which sometimes occurs rest i tell u guyz its all customer care problem not the provider problem , technician are so lazy to work around . HARAM KHORI KI ADUT PER GAI HAI AB ITNI ASAANI SE TOU NAHEN JAYEGI !!
with respect to speed its good to have DSL , let me tell u more guyz its not stand alone CIR (Single pipe) connection so if sometimes it gets lazy u should not worry but apply a technique which only few IT people knows . CIR ( Single pipe) connection costs 2000$ how can they give that to you so its a shared connection ok .
As faar as i know its not a shared connection, although PTCL is now providing business planes too for offices and larger networks now with Fiber Optic wire connectivity, since my UP TIME is good ill soon shift to business plane and so ill also update to Fiber Optic insteed of normal telephone wire… one more thing i must say before i leave again, much of the problem raises because of NOISE in telephone cable make sure you request to change the cable first when you order a DSL business or HOME plan.. cuz old cable wont help much with 1 MB or 2 MB ADSL plan..

with world call droping its quality in service, i decided to get ptcl smart tv as a backup in the event of electricity outage as worldcall no longer guarantees cable services during power outages.. But PTCl SMart tv turned out to be more unreliable than world call.. FRom constant disconnections to shitty customer service..PTCL has truly gone to dogs. i had this ‘garbage’ service installed in mid september and i cant recall even one week where i havent complained to PTCL. My problems started with the installation. they claim that all you have to do is dial 0800.. no and order online and wait for 10 days, but trust me it never happens.. after 15 days nothing happened. i kept chasing the ppl who answer customer service helpline, but they too could not help. each one would come up with a unique reason, the best reason that i got was ” Sir actually the customer has made some changes to the order which is why there is a delay”. I lost my cool and screamed to her that im the fuking customer and i made no fuking changes. On the 20th day i gave up and attacked there office near point parktowers. i stormed in and got hold of the senior management. after throwing names and fighting they managed to promise me that it would be done the next day. oh and the shocking thing they said was that they had never recieved any order !!. Once the damn device was installed i thought i could now relax and enjoy there service, but the real trouble was yet to start. Ptcl smart tv is a great service if it works, but it never works.. from the decoder heating up to picture freezing .. there were always problems. Today as i type this my internet disconnects after every 3 mins..(oh and my phone line is in top condition) if my internet stops my smart tv stops!.. i have been chasing them for the past 1 week but nothing has happened.. i plan to attack the office again lol.. Plz do not believe anyone when they say PTCL is great.. STAY AWAY FROM IT… i plan to get worlcall DTV and maxcom dsl.. i hear max has excellent customer service. this is my nightmarish experice that is still not over!. so while those who are not victims of ptcl, plz do remember me in your prayers..
